My collegue <a href=\"http:\/\/ils.unc.edu\/~march\/\">Gary Marchionini<\/a> has a gift or a curse for creating oddly specific words for the field of Information and Library Science. He has not been as widely recognized for this gift\/curse as he deserves. In order to rectify that, I present this short list.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vist<\/strong> &#8211; noun &#8211; the visual equal to gist. The visual heart of the matter. &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=surrogation\">over 1 million hits in Google almost all misspellings of <em>visit<\/em>.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Surrogation<\/strong> &#8211; noun &#8211; the creation of a surrogate. &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=surrogation\">5000 Google hits.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Exoinformation <\/strong>&#8211; noun &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asis.org\/Bulletin\/Aug-01\/brunk.html\">the informational byproduct of an individual&#8217;s information-seeking activities. [Brunk]<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=exoinformation\">55 Google hits.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sharium <\/strong>&#8211; noun &#8211; A virtual workspace with rich content and powerful tools where people can work independently or collaborate with each other to learn and solve information problems.
