{"id":69,"date":"2004-10-06T16:57:49","date_gmt":"2004-10-06T20:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=69"},"modified":"2004-10-07T09:51:34","modified_gmt":"2004-10-07T13:51:34","slug":"czeslaw-milosz-memorial-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/pjones\/blog\/czeslaw-milosz-memorial-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Czeslaw Milosz Memorial &#8211; Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unc.edu\/depts\/slavdept\/index.html\">The UNC Slavic Languages and Literature Department<\/a> will be holding a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unc.edu\/depts\/slavdept\/spektakl.html\">Commemorative Celebration and Poetry Reading Honoring Czeslaw Milosz on Thursday October 6 at 7:30 pm.<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 1993, I went to Milosz&#8217;s home in Berkeley, California and video taped him reading poems in Polish and in English. The audio from that session is on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/ipa\/milosz\/\">the Internet Poetry Archive.<\/a> But tomorrow night, thanks to help from Max Gustashaw, I&#8217;ll be showing the video for the first time. Eventually we&#8217;ll add the video to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/ipa\/\">Internet Poetry Archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not that often that you get to meet someone like<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Czeslaw_Milosz\"> Czeslaw Milosz<\/a>. His poetry over the years and changes is wonderful, clear and strong in a dialectic with his tendencies to be complex and direct, almost lewd yet religious, attracted to the world but spiritually driven, child-like yet wise, formal but also free in any form.
