One <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapelhillnews.com\/living\/story\/2884593p-9340876c.html\">&#8220;Take advantage of bare branches&#8221;<\/a> is a brief bit about finding and removing non-native annuals and invasive evergreen shrubs like privet. This is important of course, but it was the other that attracted me. And of course that&#8217;s the one article not online. Luckily Johnny points us to <a href=\"http:\/\/herbarium.unc.edu\">the NC Herbarium site<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/herbarium.unc.edu\/orchids.htm\">the great orchid resource there<\/a> so we can learn more.<br \/>\n <em><br \/>\n&#8220;Find Orchids now to enjoy summer flowering&#8221;<\/em> describes NC&#8217;s three native terrestrial orchids and how to identify them. They are rattlesnake plantain (<a href=\"http:\/\/herbarium.unc.edu\/Orchids\/Goodyera.htm\">Goodyera pubescens<\/a>), putty root orchid (<a href=\"http:\/\/herbarium.unc.edu\/Orchids\/Aplectrum.htm\">Aplectrum hyemale<\/a>) and crane-fly orchid (<a href=\"http:\/\/herbarium.unc.edu\/Orchids\/Tipularia.htm\">Tipularia discolor<\/a>).
