You can:
1. Preset it with fbset
2. use the GGI_DEFMODE variable
3. use the -mode argument
4. use the -bpp argument

WHAT ? What does kvt do ? AFAIK xggi will _never_ modeswitch all by itself.
I assume kvt is bypassing xggi and talking to the fbdev underneath. Evil.
