have you considered doing raised beds? i found this to involve less
back breaking work and i didn't need to do any major amending before
planting crops, they also turn out to be weed free in that sense, my
weeding exercise if you can call it that is pulling out vegetables seed
growing wild comes to about 2 hrs per year, it'll do me. also i don't
do any digging i just keep adding compost and let the worms work it in.
the beds of course are all heavily mulched to retain moisture.
