Phorbin replied to the statement that wild strawberry
is a weed by saying that, "It's only a weed if it's
where you don't want it to be . . .otherwise it's a
herb or a wild ornamental."

According to the books, wild strawberries are native
to the Pacific beaches and overlooking bluffs all the
way from Alaska to South America. They are well behaved
in the sharp draining soils of their native settings.
They become thugs when they are planted in rich, water
retentive soils.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management defines a weeds as
"non-native plants that have adapted to a new area".
Wild strawberries can really adapt!
