Occasionally, I get fungus gnats -- I've found that if I take a few baby food
jars, fill them half way with water, then the rest of the way with apple cider
and add a few drops of real soap and place them around the plants, the fungus
gnats all try to drink the apple cider and drown.

They don't hurt the plants, but *I* just don't like having them around and
this is an easy way to get rid of them.
