Subject: biting bugs in Va. lawns From: "Jeffery R. Lindholm" <jrl6b@virginia.edu> Organization: University of Virginia Date: Fri, 05 May 00 01:26:34 Message-ID: <MOD$000504.26984@rec.gardens.ecosystems>
I'm in Virginia, and we've got invisibly small bugs in our lawn that bite
and make big itchy lumps, much like mosquito bites, but they itch a lot
more and then go away within an hour or so.
This was so bad last year that we couldn't sit out in our lawn, esp.
around dusk. We can't see these bugs, but we're getting bit, but only
on ankles and bottom of legs.
I don't think they're chiggers, because chigger bites seem to last for
days. These itch bad but go away quick.
So, 2 questions:
1) Do you know what's biting us?
2) What can we put on the lawn or otherwise do to get rid of them,
hopefully without bad chemicals? Does lyme work?
