I have found that Ivy can be smothered effectively with black plastic,
caarpet etc.
Havent tried newspapetr and a no dig bed on it, but would imagine that
cardboard or *thick* newspaper would also do the trick. (in combination with
weeding, the bits around the edge of the cover).
I havve lots of Ivy, and am on a slow rotation around the property killing
it (bloody foreigner)
