The question was asked about hardening.

When one propagates from seed or cuttings, it is
customary to start the new plants in an ideal environment.
As the seedlings or rooted cuttings become reasonably
well established, they are often moved to a more garden
like environment - greater temperature variations, stronger
light, less humidity, more organic content in the soil, etc.

At least in my part of the world, we call that process,
"hardening". Does that answer the question?
