I believe the term is hardening-off. It means to expose your plants that are
indoors to colder temperatures before transplanting them outside. It allows
the plant to adjust both to the temperatures and light conditions outside.
Usually, you start by exposing the plants to a couple of hours outdoors and
then bring them back inside. Everyday, increase the time outside by a couple
more hours until they're able to spend the night outside. Then, you're okay
to transplant.
