Dear Edward,

The spelling is Stella d'Oro, but I immediately knew what you were talking
about. I can never remember how to spell it unless I look it up too.

Anyhow, this particular daylily is very popular here in North Carolina with
it's continuous summer bloom. According to my book, it says you may divide
them in early Spring or Fall. It also says to divide them every 2-3 years.
You should be able to see where to separate them. I would use a sharp knife
if they can't be pulled apart. Another daylily that was recommended by a
friend was called 'Happy Returns', with similar blooming habits, but a
lighter yellow color. Good Luck.
