Hi
I would like to turn my "front yard" into a wildflower meadow . My "
front yard" is about 2 acres.( I own 15 acre of land) .The first acre is
the one I want to transform into a wildflower meadow . Where do I start?
Should I till this land and start with bare earth? I do have some
wildflowers growing there already (Lupin and Blue Flag Iris ),in two
small patches .Grasses cover most of this area . The land is has some
dry and moist spots .
I have been looking around to see witch plants grow well around here on
their own. Here are some of the plants on my list : Black eye susans,Joe
Pye Weed, Asters , Blue Flag Iris, Lupins, Musk Mallow , Tansy , and
Goldenrod. How do I collect enough seed for a large space ? Where do you
buy seeds for a wildflower meadow ? Should I stick to native plants only
?
Should I try to work on a small patch and just let it grow ?
I do have access to some machinery ,a tractor with several attachment
(plow, bush cutter , disc , etc.. )
Time and money are two of the biggest obstacles in my way . I don't
have very much of either :0) . I would really love to hear from anyone
who has a wild flower meadow ( big or small) .
