g'day gabriel,
i would not suggest that someone use peat, used or otherwise for total
medium in raised or any beds it has no nutrients in it or other
beneficial organisms that are found in compost, peat is a non
renewable resource also.
the best medium for raised beds is composted material either kitchen
scraps or garden pruning etc.,. i use well composted mushroom compost
as my medium i do add other things like cow stable manure or any
manure that i can get hold of as well as composted garden scraps.
then i mulch the beds heavily with straw to help contain the moisture.
