Actually, I think I solved it!

I'm pretty sure it was just water stress. I water most evenings or
early mornings these days (its been very dry for a few weeks around
here) & both plants & fruit are looking healthy now. The area where
the provblem was most noticeable was also getting more sunlight than
the rest.

Thankyou all for your advice though! I think that thisb group could be
really valuable.
