The answer to both questions is a definite NO! The use of
herbicides, and particularly in the home garden, is not a good
way to go. Hand weeding, the use of cover crops and/or
much, keeping on top of conditions in your garden is
infinetly better. Paraquat is a very toxic material. RoundUp is
not.

In no way should you get the idea that I am recommending
the use of herbicides nor am I recommending the use of
RoundUp. I am simply saying that when you have something
like a giant patch of poison ivy that is beyond your ability to resolve by
hand weeding and you don't happen to have a spare goat, spot application of
RoundUp may be O.K. as a tool of last resort. It is the 'lesser of two
evils'.

RoundUp is relatively low toxic and relatively easy on the
