Hi there!
A couple of questions about sunflowers. we're in the Midlands
of the U.K. We've just grown about 8 or nine really big ones.

We were waiting for the seeds to ripen on the heads before harvesting
but the birds are getting to them. They aren't quite the right colour,
but probably up to size - should we just cut them? I thought of
sticking carrier bags over them until they looked more ready.

On a lighter note, the stems are 8 feet tall+, thick, heavy & woody
does anyone have any suggestions for uses to which they could be put?

Cheers!
Barry.
