Vince from Boulevard, California had completed a new pond, filled it with
well water and then asked about his dying water hyacinth . . .
Water hyacinth are tough but they are also sensitive to
alkalinity. They don't do well when the pH gets much
over 7.5. I noticed your location in Boulevard and
suspect that you probably have alkaline water. I'd
suggest that you take a sample of your well water to one of those swimming
pool equipment places and have them check the pH.
If the pH is much over 7.5, you might want to add a cup
of vinegar and see if you couldn't get back closer to neutral.
p.s. . . . most water plants also seem to do better without
the pump and fountain.
