No, it's fine. The acid would have the same effect as if you threw a
little sulfur in the garden to counter alkalinity.
I'd use newspaper mulch in a veggie garden before I'd use plastic fabric.
Earthworms can chew their way through newspaper. That allows them to
aerate the soil and bring nutrients up to the surface. Newspaper also
won't become treacherous to walk on after a soaking rain.
