Cold weather doesn't really bother goldfish unless they freeze solid- they
are cold water fish. People in Pennsylvania, Washington and other northerly
states keep them outside all year. The key is having sufficient depth that
the water doesn't freeze solid.

Shade is essential in southern ponds- I'm in North Texas where it is today
103 degrees- on June 2. Can you imagine August? Lots of aeriation is
important in the heat, too, if it is extreme like ours can be- 108 isn't
unusual.--
