I need some suggestions for some heat and drought tolerant plants-
zone 7/8 - summer temps 100+ and winter lows not below 15 deg F. I
need a lot of shrubs and ground covers for both sun and shade.

Sun: I planted some red tipped photinia for a south facing wall and
it is doing okay as long as I keep it watered- just planted this
spring, so still getting estab. I will also plant a crepe myrtle or
two on that side of the house. I will probably plant some santolina
(sp?) cotton lavendar over there, too since I know it does well
around here. Also bearded irises. I will probably plant the shrubs
in the fall to let them over winter in place. I planted a juniper
this spring and it fried before the weather even got good and hot.
What shrubs will do well in direct sun? Are there any shade loving
shrubs that tolerate some drought? I have yucca but need something
more rounded for contrast.

Shade- I planted hydrangeas this spring and it was a bad idea. If
I don't water them every day or twice a day they wilt. I need
something a little more suitable. I am doing okay with ajuga as a
ground cover but it needs lots of water, and I've got lots of monkey
grass and liriope that are all doing well. Just started some
English Ivy this year and it is doing okay for the most part, too.
I have mint in some very particular shady areas since it will grow
anywhere.

Any ideas will be appreciated!
