Yes, there are. First, I recommend _Noah's_ _Garden_, and
at the same time, join your state's or province's Native Plant
Society.
Noah's Garden shows a plan for re-creating some of the Native
Americans' permaculture practices in the way we landscape, and
also point out that plants bred purely for looks have often lost
their wildlife value (she goes into the issue of native plants
producing more nectar in the morning, when hummingbirds must expend
more energy to gather it, for instance.)
BTW, there are native plants in most states that are still attractive
garden plants.
