My experience, when I was a landscaper, was that getting rid of the food source
was the best way of getting rid of mole (and raccoon) damage. You don't want
to get rid of earthworms, of course, but grubs can be a big source of food for
moles. We found that applying predatory nematodes every couple of months
eliminated mole and raccoon problems in lawns. Even newly laid sod--a favorite
target of raccoons: they roll it up like a carpet to get to the "goodies"
underneath, then it dries out and has to be replaced--even with such an
attractive target, the nematodes were amazingly effective at eliminating
damage. They get rid of unwanted beetle larvae, and don't hurt the fuzzy
critters.
