Gracie posted saying that she wanted to start a small vegetable garden and
the only spot in her garden with sun was directly over the septic tank drain
field.
I would suggest that she consider making raised beds. This would give
greater distance between the
septic tank outflow and the root zone and it would
also soften the drainage pattern from the garden
beds. If the organic content of the soil in the raised beds is brought up to
a respectable level, say to about 20% by volume, the soil microorganism
population would be increased as well. Soil microorganisms do a good job in
cleaning up the soil.
