Spunky wants to plant an oak tree close to a
septic drain field and asks for input.
Many of the oak trees like rich, moist soil while others like it on the dry
side. Scrub Oaks, for example, don't do well in most Southern California
gardens because our garden environments are too wet and this makes them more
subject to Armillaria.
Some of the oaks that do well back East or in the Mid-West have aggressive
roots while others do
not. My suggestion is that you talk with your County Agent and find out
which oaks might be best in your
particular environment and with your particular needs for less aggressive
roots.
