A free six-part lecture series on the origins and history of the Philadelphia
region's unusual passion for gardening continues Monday, April 26, at the Lang
Performing Arts Center at Swarthmore College. The series is sponsored by the
Delaware County Historical Society (DCHS).

Mark Gormel, horticultural coordinator of the Brandywine Conservancy, will
discuss the the landscaping of the Brandywine River Museum, which occupies the
1864 Hoffman grist mill in Chadds Ford, Pa. Established in 1967, the
conservancy stopped a developer who had proposed demolishing the former mill
for an industrial park. Using slides, Gormel will show early views of the
mill, as well as contemporary photographs of the museum grounds.

For more information or to obtain a brochure about the lecture series, call
DCHS at 610-359-1148.
