Many golf superintendents are using them as an alternative to chemicals on
the course. It is more labor intensive than spraying chemicals, but the
weed is dead, immediately.

The trick is not to actually burn down the weed but kill it w/ the heat in
close proximity. The heat will kill the weed, damage the turf nearby, but
allow it to recover quickly and grow over the area occupied by the weed
(s). If the weed happens to be in seed, the heat will sterilize the seeds.
