There are two categories of bamboo: runners and clumpers. If you have
clumping bamboo, there is no need to do anything about it. If it is a
runner, you should try reading:

If it is a runner but hasn't started running yet, try installing a
barrier around it (instructions on the above page). If you know what
species you have but don't know whether it runs, try

Since you only have 5 tall stems, my guess is yours is a clumper.
