Sweet Revenge Synopsis Karen Knightly (HELENA BONHAM CARTER) is an enigmatic, highly-strung aristocrat, recently jilted by her lover Anthony Staxton- Billing (MARTIN CLUNES). Henry Bell (SAM NEILL) is a recently separated middle-manager, whose whole mediocre life seems to be steadily collapsing around him. Their worlds collide one night on Albert Bridge, having each resolved to end their problems once and for all by casting themselves into the murky waters of the river Thames. As if propelled by fate, Henry finds himself rescuing Karen from her entanglement below the bridge, and together they share their woes in the unlikely setting of a trucker's cafe. As their stories unfold and their anger builds, each focuses on a single nemesis for their problems. For Henry it is the chauvinistic Bruce Tick (STEVE COOGAN), his replacement at the office; while for Karen it is Anthony Staxton-Billing's wife Imogen (KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS), the falsely modest English woman who has dragged Anthony back into her clutches. Driven on by their unlikely coming together, Henry finds himself swept along by Karen's bravado, and with nothing to lose, he agrees to accompany her for a short stay at her place in the country. On the way there in Karen's sports car, she suddenly proposes the unimaginable; swapping their mutual revenges, so that each seeks out the other opponent. Henry is taken aback, while Karen delights in the ultimate satisfaction that it may lead to murder. The place in the country is a stately home occupied by an assortment of eccentric and peculiar characters, including Karen's brother Oliver Knightly (RUPERT GRAVES), who rides around inside the mansion on a motorbike. Despite Henry's better judgment, he finds himself agreeing with Karen on a plan of action. She will destroy Bruce and he must destroy Imogen. However, when Henry is introduced to Imogen he finds himself, for the first time, believing in love at first sight, even though she barely registers his existence. As events unfold, and Henry begins to settle in at the house, it becomes clear that he has made a pact with a mad woman. Karen seems to delight in dangerous games, and to this end prefers to concoct her own version of the world as she envisions it should be. When Henry unwittingly discovers that Anthony is not the shining knight of Karen's fevered imagination, but rather a second rate philanderer who is having affairs with most of the people in the neighborhood, he resolves to rescue Imogen from his clutches and reveal the bitter truth to Karen, thus ending their pact for revenge. However Karen has progressed too far in her plans of revenge against Bruce Tick. With Henry drawn deeper and deeper into her web - it is up to him to figure out a way to foil her plan of attack before the plot is carried out and there is no turning back.
