Sri:

Dear Sri Lakshminrusimhan :

You have asked an interesting question on
the Sri Vaikunta Gahdyam section. Other list
Members might be intersted in the answer
relating to Vaijayanthy & Vana Maalai. The Vaikunta
Gadhyam Paasage that you refer to is :

" Srimathyaa Vaijayanthyaa Vanamaalyaa viraajitham ".

You probably wonder, why what appears to be ParyAya sabdhams
( those with same meanings) are placed one next to the other
in Sri Vaikunta Gadhyam Passage . Here are some thoughts as
to why they appear right next to each other .

************************************************

Vaijayanthy is the necklace of Sriman NaarAyaNan in
Sri Vaikuntam ; Vana Maalai is connected close to
KrishNaavathAram . Vyjayanthy is linked to Param and Vana Maalai
to Vibhaava avathAram . Vana Maala is a garland constructed of
Vana Pushpams ( Vana Malli , Kaatu TuLasi & unculitvated ,
wild /Forest flowers) . VYjayanthi is made of flowers
which are of SuddhA Sathvam , the material of Sri Vaikuntam .

You have to go to few Rg Veda Mantrams to understand
the significance of Vana Maala based on the word Vanaspathy
( the Lord of the Forest , BrundhA Vanam: Sri Raaja Gopalan) .

The Rg Veda Mantram 9.5.10 is :

Vanaspathim Pavamaana madhvaa sam angdhi dhaarayaa
sahasra-valsam haritaam bhArajamAnam hiraNyayam

(Meaning) : Vanaspathy here refers to the Lord of Forest
(Vegetation) , who produces the multihued , splenderous flowers
that go into Bhagavaan's Vana Maalai during the KrishNAvathAram .

" Oh Pure-flowing divine Bliss , May You consecrate with Your
streaming ambrosia the ever-green , refulgent , golden hued
forest vegetation along with its thousand branches ."

The forest vegetation covers both the flowers and fragrant leaves .

Here , Pure divine Bliss is " Visvathaspathi " referred to in the first
Mantram of this 9.5 section :

samiddhO ViSvathaspathy: pavamAnO raajathy
preeNAnvrushaa kanikradath ---Rg Vedam 9.5.1

(Meaning):"The enkindled , the Soverign Lord of all ,
the showerer of blessings , the rejoicer , flows forth ,
pure in form and in joy utters a thrilling sound ".

His JOy is derived from the sense of Fulfilment of
a tiller of forest , where his efforts ( krishi) has become
fruitful . The Jeevan has performed prapatthi . Krishi
palitthuvittathu .

Rg Veda Mantram 9.5.2 gives another clue on the constituents
of the Vanamaalai :

tanUnapaath PavamAna: SrunghE SiSaanO arshathy
antharikshENa raarjath --- Rg Vedam : 9.5.2

(Meaning): " The Pure-flowing , with body never-decaying ,
rushes onwards; sharpening its splendour in the height and
glittering across the firmament ". The word TanUnapaath
is key : Never decaying in body although born in the forest
with the waters of the rivers there and the beams of Sun nourishing
them . These flowers with the privelege of forming the Vana Maalai
NEVER FADE once they are associated with the Lord's divine body .

That is the Vedic connotation of the Vana Maalai of VeNu Gopaalan
as He moved around recieving the samarpaNam of the garland of
forst flowers lovingly put together by the hands of His Parama Bhakthais,
the Gopi Janams .
