THIRUPPAVAI
JEEYAR

EmperumAnAr used to chant
ThriuppAvai daily during unjurvarthi.
Once on the 18th pAsuram 'vundhu madhakaLiTRan' he knocked at the doors of Sri
Periya Nambi and out came
his daughter
'athuzhAi'.
Seeing her, he fell at her feet
completely.
Overawed, she askd Nambi why this
has happened? Pat came the response from Nambi, that EmperumAnaR must have
been chanting
'vundhu
madhakaLiTran..' pAsuram.
This pAsuram talks of Nappinnai
pirATTi and on seeing Nambi's daughter, EmperumAn mistook her for Nappinnai
pirATTi, being immersed in 'ThiruppAvai' and fell at her
feet.
This
'aidihyam' shows the deep involvemnt of Vudayavar and that is why the name
'ThiruppAvai
JEyar'
àààààààààà

This also reflects our pUrvAchAryas
involvement with soul, mind and actions when chanting
pAsuram-s.
Sri Periya Nambi's resposne shows
how well he had fathomed EmperumAnar's mind.
Great indeed.
This is from Sri PeriyavAchAn
pILLai's vyAkyanam for ThiruppAvai.

The great souls proficient and
erudite in sruthi, smrithi, idhihAsam and vEdantham would not think even of
seeing or hearing the other works which are contradictory to
these.
Sri PeriyavAchAn piLLai mentions
Sri kUrathAzvAn as one such great soul.
Here one incident (aidihyam) is
referred to.
Once, Sri KUrathAzvAn heard some
aviadhika people reading a book titled 'ishta siddhi'
and he listened to it for sometime
and reached his place. His father questioned him for the delay and AzvAn told
the fact. For this his father AzhvAr told ,"Will a person erudite in sruthi,
smrithi, idhihAsam and vEdantham would think of seeing or hearing such
things'
'kalai aRak kaTRa

vyAkyanam.
This incident points to the facts
that our pUrvAchAryas had followed
AzvAr-s verses in words and
spirit.
Further, this also reiterates that
we are to concentrate only on authentic pramANAm-s and be indifferent towards
others.
The aidihyam-s thus act as a beacon
in the world of commentaries and helps us to understand the commenatries and
text from a different perspective.
