Marghazhi Month : Day 2
*********************************

Sri:

Dear BhakthAs of Thiruvaheendhrapuram Achyuthan:

Let us study 5 more slOkams ( 16-20) today .

SlOkma 16 :
*****************
bhAthi PhaNeendhra-purAdhipa
prathipAlayathsu prakaDa-prabhUtha phalA
api dhruhiNa-pramukai: Aajn~Apthis-
tavaalanghaneeya prabhAvA

(Meaning according to D.R.Swamy ) : Oh Lord of AhIndhra nagaram !
Thy commands confer great and lofty fruits on those who follow them .
Their greatness is such that even Brahma and others can not afford to
transgress them .

(Comments) : Since the Lord is Superior to all , it follows that His aj~naa
(command) thru His Saasthrams are inviolable . They can not be transgressed .
Those who obey them gain all desired phalans they seek . No one including
the mighty Brahma dEvA dare not transgress these commands of the Lord .

Our Lord of ThiruvahIndhrapuram ( PhaNeendhra PurAdhipan ) bestows
His grace abundantly , when the jeevans obey His SaasthrAs (Commands=
Aajn~Apthi: ) and conduct themselves accordingly (PrathipAlayathsu
jeevAnAm) . They recieve abundant phalans ( prakaDa prabhUtha
phalA: ) from the pleased Lord. Even Brahma , the Creator
and other prominent ones ( dhruhiNa: pramukai: api) do not
transgress Thy commands , which shine with glory ( alankaneeya
prabhavA bhAthi) .

AnnamachArya points this out in one of his sankeethanams: " Oh Lord !
The eternally meritorious ones will offer their servitude and obey Your
SaasthrAs . The evil-minded , why do they need Your commands ?
( chirapuNyaulaitE meesEvalu sEtrugAka , durithachittulaku meetrOva
yEthiki ? ) .

nigama vidheenAm pravrutthi sarvEshAmapi
dAsa-sathyOddhisya ThvAm
SrAddha nimanthritha BrAhmaNa samAdhi
siddhAm labanthE thridasA bhukthim

( Meaning according to D.R.Swamy ): Oh Lord True to Thy adiyArs !
All kinds of directives and directions laid down in the VedAs in their
performance indicates Thee and Thee alone. The DevAs ( participating
therein ) obtain satisfaction in the manner of Brahmins fed at a SrAddhaa
after being invoked as Pithrus (forefathers ) by the MantrAs.

(Comments): The YaagAs and Yaj~nAs prescribed by the Karma KaaNDam
section of the VedAs help to obtain the desired fruits by the YajamAnan .
Various
dEvatAs are invoked by name and offered Havir BhAgams . In actuality ,
it is the Lord , who is the indweller of the DevAs , who recieves the offered
Havis and gets satisfied and grants the sought after boons .This situation
is similar to the SrAddhams , when mantrAs are used to invoke the presence
of the Pithrus on the niminthraNa Brahmins and food is offered to them until
they are satisfied . The ultimate satisfaction is enjoyed not by the invited
Brahmins but by the Pithru dEvathAs , who bless the YajamAnar of
the performed SrAddham . BhagavAn is therefore the recipient of
the Sath KarmAs . Just as Pithru aavaahanam in SrAddhams ,
dEvathA aavAhanam in Yaj~nams is intended for the Lord to
recieve the Havis as the indweller of these dEvathAs .

SlOkam 18

AarAdhya thridaSa vilayE Achyutha
nithyam na thishtasi yathi nAma Thvam
karmaNAm kalpithAnAm karishyathi
kalpAntharEshu kO nirvEsam

( Meaning according to D.R.Swamy ): Achyutha! If only Thou were not
there eternally (i-e ) ., when the propitiated devotees (in a Yaaga) get
destroyed
(during the PraLayA ) , who will confer the fruits of performed YaagAs in
later kalpAs (aeons)?

(Comments) : Here , Swamy Desikan reminds us that Achyutha Parabrahmam
has eternal existence even during the PraLayam and gives the reason why .
At the end of each kalpam , the dEvAs appointed by the Lord are destroyed.
During the subsequent kalpam , the dEvathAs , who recieved the Havis wont
be there anymore . This does not present any problems for those performing
Yaj~nams in the subsequent kalpam because the Lord , the indweller of
the perished dEvathAs is still there since He is eternal and is
indestructible.
He recieves the Havis thru the new set of dEavthAs created by Him and grants
the phalans as before . He is the fixed factor and others are variables .
They come and go , while the Lord stays as aksharan and ajAyamAnan .
Both before PraLayam and after it , He still is the eternal boon giver .

SlOkam 19

kalpayasi kaankshithAni kalpa dhruma iva
SrI kAnchana lathA sahitha:
Nathasathya sahdA phalAni nijacchAyA
nirbhinna nithyatApa thribhuvana:

( Meaning according to D.R.Swamy ): Oh Lord True to Thy devotees !
Thou doth always confer (on all) the desired fruits like a kalpaka tree
around which is entwined a golden creeper Lakshmi , and doth dispel
the eternal heat of all the three worlds by Thy shade .

(Comments) : The dhivya MiTunam ( the divine couple) are saluted
as the boon grantors here . He is the Kalpa Taru ( Boon granting
Kalpaka tree) ; She is the golden creeper entwining that Kalpakaa tree .
When the devotees seek the shade of this divine tree with the entwined
golden creeper (MahA Lakshmi) , then the sufferings from the three samsAric
afflictions are banished . The tree itself ( the Lord Himself ) is cool and
enjoyable to the utmost . That tree shines further as a result of MahA Lakshmi
embracing it as a golden creeper . " Kalasa jaladhi KanyA vallaree
Kalpa-Saakhee "
is how Swamy Desikan celebrated this Tatthvam in Sri VaradarAja PanchAsath .

AnnamAchArya refers to the SrinivAsa Tatthvam ( Thiruvaheendhrapuram
Achyuthan is known as Nadu Naattu SrinivAsan) in one of his sankeerthanam
this way :

" To bestow benevolently , all the desired things , "here " and
"hereafter" eternally , there is Your sankeerthanam !
To make my penances fruitful easily , Oh Sri VenkatEsA
as " the means" , there is Your KamalA DEvi !
( -- nApAla galadugA nee nAmamu , -- kOpamenta galigina
kocci sAntamiccutaku cEpatti kalavugA naacittamulO neevu ).

Whatever the ways of Kali Yugaa , there is always Your compassion !

sakalAgamAnAm nishtaa sakala-
surANAmpyanthara AathmA
sakala phalAnAm prasUdhi: sakala--
janAnAm sama: khalu Nathasathya Thvam

(Meaning according to D.R.Swamy ): Natha-Sathya ! Thou art the ultimate
meaning of all the VedAs . Thou art the indweller of all dEvAs . Thou art
the Yielder of all fruits . And Thou art equal towards all beings . Is it not
so ?

(Comments) : Swamy Desikan now reminds us about four important
tatthvams of Achyuthan : (1) Thvam Sakala nishTA ( You are the end line ,
the boundary for all the VedAs . " You are the ultimate meaning and significance
of all the VedAs (2) You are the indweller of all the dEvAs ( sakala
surANAmapi
antharAthmA ) , (3) You are the sarva phala dhAyakan ( grantor of all boons),
You are the land from which all the phalans originate/grow ( Sakala PhalAnAm
Thvam prasoothi: )/viLaivu nilam , (4) You are impartial and treats every
janthu
according to its karma vibhAgam ( sakala JanAnAm sama: khalu , Sama darsinee) .
You grant phalans strictly according to the their KarmAs and do not show
any favoritism .
