Sri:

Dear Sriman KrishNa TatachAr:

1)When AchArya of the stature  of Swamy Desikan blesses us
with a SrI Sookthi ( SthOthram here ) , He is thinking more of us ,
who do not have the VairAgyam , Jn~Anam and yet seek from
the most compassionate Varam tarum Varadarajan this worldly
sulhams ( all the three other PurushArTams ) . Swamy incorporates
the bheejAksharams and Mantrams inside these sthOthra Granthams .
Chathur VarNatthAr , women , Men , Children can recite them
without upadEsam from AchAryans as in the case of esoteric
mantrams . There is no anadhikAri as a result .Such is the vastness
of the Dayaa of our AchAryan .

2. Swamy Desikan's AchAryan was ApuLLAr ( That srEshta bird,
Garudan , who carries the Lord , Gardan ) . Swamy recieved mantropadEsam
(Garuda MantrOpadEsam ) from His AchAryan and arrived at
Thiruvahendhrapuram to recite Garuda Mantram on Oushadha Giri
and gained siddhi : SaakshAthkAram of Garuda BhagavAn and
the Yoga Hayagreva Murthy for His AarAdhanam . SthOthrams
on Garuda   and HayagrIva are acknowledgement of
the indebtedness of Dwamy Desikan to these two Mantra Moorthys .

3. Garuda DaNDakam and Garuda PanchAsath are for protection
against snakes , scorpions and other poisonous animals . This
Swamy Desikan blessed for us .

4. By the age of 20 , Swamy Desikan had mastered the VedAntham
Saasthrams , VisishtAdhvaitham's doctrines inluding Bhagavat GeethA .
He blessed us with Taathparya Chandrika , the brilliant annotated
commentary on AchArya Raamanuja's GeethA BhAshyam , which
itself takes off  from Swamy AlawandAr's GeethArTa Sangraham .
Swamy also blessed us with the Tamil Prabhandham of
GeethArTa Sangraham .Hence , Swamy intrepreted and taught
the mesage of Bhagavath GitA (18.66) and wrote many elaborations on
our Lord's Charama SlOkam in His Prabhandhams and ChullaRai
rahasyams .

5. he Ahobilavalli and SundaraSimham Teams have put together number of
e-books on these subjects . As a Member of the Team , Dr.Saroja Ramanujam
with her facile and scholarly wriitngs is assembling the Garuda PanchAsath
as one of the e-books for Ahobilavalli . We will combine it with the audio
on Sri Garuda PanchAsath and Tamil Text ( Trnsltion ) by Sri Anbil
SrinivAsan of New Delhi .

Translations and explanations of the rhythmic and complex Garudapanchasath
of Swami Deshikan has been a feast. But makes me wonder, why Swami Deshikan
is asking GaruDa what the Lord has already promised (BG18:66)?

20. aaraath abhyutThitha airaavatham amitha java udhanchath ucchaiSravaskam

Garuda, who like the Manthara mountain with wings,  Airavatha and Ucchaisravas rise up against, made Indra agitated  with the tumult  of his movement left and right in every direction, rolling his eyes seeking nectar while the devas were looking on,  manifest  prosperity for us for a long time.
In this sloka Garuda is compared to the Manthara mountain with all the adjectives used being appropriate for both.

Airavatha which arose from the ocean while the Manthara mountain was being churned, aaraath utThitha airaavatham,  also rose against Garuda
UcchaiSravas rose with great speed  against Garuda  as he emerged out of the ocean, amitha java udhanchath ucchaisravaskam.
Garuda  was  flying left and right, savya apasavyam, in all directions, dhisi dhisi braamyan, and agitated jaatha kshobham , Indra, dhivishathvaahineesam, the master of the army of the devas. The word dhivishad means devas who reside in the heaven, dhivi.
The  Manthara mountain was being churned, vimaThnan, right and left  and agitated the ocean, vaahineesa, who is  also  dhivishadeesa, the Lord of Ganges, who is referred to as  dhivishad, residing in the heavens.
Prenkhathnethra, on the part of Garuda means rolling eyes and on the part of Manthara denotes Vasuki, used as the churning rope, the word nethra having the meaning of the rope of a churning stick.
Nah Sriyam praktayathu â Like the Manthara which caused the manifestation of Sri, Goddess Lakshmi, may Garuda fetch Sri to us also.
