SETTING VERY HIGH
STANDARDS
Our AzvAr/AchAryas set very high
standards.
They practise these high standards
and then preach-not vice-versa.
They never think of other deities
-maRandhum puRam thozhA
mAndhar.
They never think of other things
but God-ninnayEa thAn VEANDi nEL selvam vEAnDAthAr
They think of only EmperumAn's
happiness - mATRai nam kAmangaL
mATRu.
Sri PiLLai LokAchAr and Azhagiya
maNavALap perumAL nAyanAr were naishtika brahmachAri-s
They, hence preached certain high
standards without any hesitation whatsover.
Though certain things are permitted
in SAsthrAs they proscribe these as not behoving
prapannan.
SvAmi piLLai lOkAchARya commended
this in the sUthram .
'prapannanukku
vihitha vishya nivruthi than yEAtRam' Sri vachana BhUshaNam
101.
Thus though certain acts may be
within the framework of the sAsthram, they may not fit in
the stricter purview of
a prapannan.
The devotion to Emperuman a great
appreciable attribute is eclipsed in front of prapannAs who maintain always that
devotion to His devotees is the ultimate-the ellai nilam.
For instance the companies Act
rquires four board meetings to be held annually. A company for the sake of
better corporate governanace may prescribe for itself 6 or even 9 meetings in its articles of
association. The disclousure norms for a company is prescribed by Sebi, listing
agreement, Accounting Standards and Schedule VI. A comapny as a policy may
prescribe for itself more stringent disclosure norms -eg. Human resources
accounting.
The very prescriptiion in normal
parlance may become irrelvevant for a higher class of people
thus.
This is wonderfully underlined by
Sri PeriyAzvAr and Sri MAmunikaL in the vyAkyAnam.
