Arul Maa Kadal of Thiru SiRu Puliyoor Dhivya Desam *******************************************************************
In the previous Paasuram , Kaliyan appealed to every one
to perform MangaLaasAsanam of SiRu PuliyUr EmperumAn
and to hold on to His sacred feet and accept them as the unfailing
means for gaining Moksha sukham .

In this Paasuram , Thirumnagai asserts once again that he has
no refuge other than the Thiruvadis  of the SiRu PuliyUr  Chala
Sayana NaaTan for  gaining Moksham:

vAnAr mathi pothiyum  saDai mazhu aaLiyOdu oru paal
thaann ahiya talaivan avan amararkku athipathiyAmm
thEnAr pozhil tazhuvum  Siru puliyUr chala sayanatthu
Aann aayanathu adi allathu onRu aRiyEn adiyEnE ---PT : 7.9.4

(Meaning) : adiyEn has become the servant of the sacred feet of
the Lord of Chala Sayanam . adiyEn does not know of anything other
than those holy feet of the Lord of SiRu PuliyUr  , who is the sarva
sulabhan engaged in grazing His cattle as the divine cowherd
in the groves of SiRu PuliyUr known for its honely laden flowering
trees . He is the Lord of the Niothya Sooris , the eternally liberated
Jeevans. He is the Lord of devAs ( Indhran) as well . He has the samhAra
Moorthy , Rudran with his short axe ( Mazhu) housed on the  right side of
His ThirumEni (Body) . That Rudran has such dense matted locks that
the Chandran adorning those Jadais is barely visible .

Special Notes :
********************
The key words of this Paasuram are : AanAyan adi allathu onRu aRiyEn " .
Close by to SiRu PuliyUr is a  KrishNa kshEthram that Thirumangai
had just  performed  MangaLAsAsanam ( Periya Thirumozhi : 7.4 to 7.8 ).
This is the KrishNa KshEthram of TherazhundhUr , where PerumAl is
worshipped as Aayan . Here , the Lord blesses us with the Sevai as
the cowherd  , grazing His cows and calves . Thirumangai has sung
47 beautiful paasurams on ThErazhandhUr Aayan ( Gopaalan) .
Those thoughts on KrishNAvathaaram were very much on AzhwAr's
mind , when he remembered the Lord of SiRu PuliyUr as the  Parama
Soulabhya Moorthy : Aan Aayan . In this Paasuram , Thirumangai
addressed the Lord as " amararkku athipathy" , the Lord of Indhran .
It was Indhran who mistook the Lord as a simple cowherd boy ,
who interfered with the annual poojaa for him by Gokula Vaasis .
Angered by GopAlan's instructions to the gokula Vaasis not to worship
Indhran , latter sent hails and thunderstorms to destroy Gokulam .
Our Lord , the Aayan lifted Govardhana giri , held it on His  little
finger and protected the cows , calves and the citizens of Gokulam
from impending destruction . He became Govardhana Giridharan .
Indhran was taught a lesson and he recognized the true svaroopam
of the little cowherd , fell at the Lord's feet  and performed Govindha
PattAbhishEkam to recognize Aaayan as his Lord . Aaayan thus gained
the titl eof " Amararkku athipathy ' although he was already the Lord
of the DEvAs and their king  .

This " aaycchi vaittha Tayir VeNNai uNDu uhanatha MaayOn " let
Himself tied down by HIs mother to a wodden mortar for His mischief
( " PeRRa  thAyAl aappu uNDu irunthu azhuthu yEngum " MaayOn ).
He carries even today the three welt marks around His waist and
acquired the name of DhAmOdharan for that reason . This Aayan , who is
SarvEswaran thus came to known as  DhAmOdharan . He became
"  KaNNU nuNN siRutthAmpinaal KattuNNappatta Patta PeRu Maayan "  .
At SiRu PuliyUr dhivya Desam , He presents HImself as Vaamana ( Baala)
RanganAthan performing Yoga NidhrA on AdhisEshan as at Srirangam .
It is well known that Moolavar RanganAthan at Srirangam shows
the three welt marks around His waist as DhAmOdhara KrishNan .
It will not be surprising to see these same welt marks around  the waist of
the Aayan at SiRu PUliyUr  .

The SarvEswarathvam of the " Aann Aayan " at SiRu PuliyUr is saluted
by Kaliyan through the recognition of another feature on the Chala Sayana
Moorthy at this dhivya dEsam . Here , SarvEswaran banished the sins
( Brahmahatthi dhOsham ) of Rudran from plucking one of the five heads of
his father , Brahma Devan . SiRu PuliyUr Arumaa Kadal Amuthu gave
Rudran out of His infiite compassion a portion of His body to reside in .
This benovolent act of SiRu PuliyUr EmperumAn is saluted by
Thirumangai in this Paasuram as :  " VaanAr mathi pothiyum sadai
mazhuvaaLiyodu oru paal Thaann aahiya Talaivan " . The Moon ( Mathi)
adorning the matted locks of Rudran is described as " VaanAr Mathi "
( The Moon that spreads its cool rays around the sky) . That "VaanAr Mathi"
is almost hidden in the vast assembly of the matted locks of Rudran ,
who carries the short axe on one of His upper hands ( Mathi pothiyum
sadai Mazhu aaLi oru paal ) and stays as a part of the body of
the SarvEswaran ( MazhuALiyODu Thann aahiya Talaivan ) . Rudran
known also as Pasupathi is incorporated in the right side of
the SarvEswaran's body as a loyal servant  and grandson .
