Dear Sri Deskian

Your mail is interesting. We have been living in New Zealand for the past
eight years. There is some truth in what you say. I don't think however that
Tamils are ashamed to talk in their mother tongue. The kids spend most of
their time as school and with their peers. Naturally they tend to be more
comfortable in using English.

A year and a few weeks ago, I started to teach Tamil to my children and out
of curiosity asked a few parents if they would like their kids to learn too.
I was surprised to find their enthusiastic response.

Around 10 kids now have learnt all the 247 letters are now able to read and
speak many words and sentences. They are still learning.

Also my experience is Sri Lankans contribute more towards awareness of Tamil
than Indians abroad.

Warm Regards

Balajee Narasimhan
