SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest all, After Thiruviruttham we will take up Periya ThiruvanthAthi of Nammazhwarâ??s- the work which contains only one verse on ThiruvEnkatam.. With that our series on ThiruvEnkatam- Sri Srinivaasa vaibhavam comes to saaRRumuRai. Periya ThiruvanthAThi has 87 verses. It prepares the mind for communion with the Lord ? it says that by experiencing the divine qualities of the Lord through reciting, singing praises and speaking about His glories, greatness, His infinite auspicious attributes, Supremacy, all troubles vanish. God is described as Mother, Father, Teacher, and AzhwAr here emphasizes the need to worship the Lord in all possible ways. [from Sri KR Krishnaswamy's book on Thiruvoimozhi [Incorporating Bhagavad Vishayam]. Let us enjoy the 68th verse on ThiruvEnkatam: kallum kanaikadalum vaikuntha vaanaadum, pullen Razhinthanakol Epaavam,-vella nediyaan niRangkariyaan uLpugun^thu n^eeNGkaan, adiyEna thuLLath thakam. Emeprumaan KaNNan is the grandest and greatest of all; He is the Lord of everyone; He is of dark hued most divinely beautiful color; He has entered into my heart and has occupied the same fully in its entirety to reside permanently. ThiruvEnkatam mountain, [kal]; the ThiruppaaRkadal- Milky ocean with noisy waves [kanai kadal]; SrI vaikuNtam [Paramapadham]; - these divine places are His residences. Now, they have become unwanted places of stay. Alas! Because He desires to stay in my heart. He has considered my heart superior to them; What a blessing! How fortunate I am! what a dayA! pullenRu ozhindhana- These places have become like grass [thruNam] OR one may interpret that sicne the Lord chooses to now stay at AzhwAr's heart, none goes there and hence the paths have been covered with grasses everywhere. Vella nediyaan- There is no one who is superior to Him and hence He is the Tall One; The Grandest and Greatest Lord. What a great verse! Now let us complete the series with the great verse of Swamy Desikan and Swamy EmperumAnAr's Sri Bhashya mangaLa sthOthra. Swami Desika describes the "Thiruvemkata Malai" in the ' Paasuram' in Sthana Visesha Adhikaram of his adhikaara sangraham: Kannan Adyinai Emakkuk Kaattum Verpu, Kadu Vinayar Iru Vinaiyum Kadiyum Verpu, Thinnamidu Veedena Thigazhum Verpu, Thelinda Perum Thirthangal Serinda Verpu, Punniyathin Pugalidena Pugazhum Verpu, Ponnulagil Bogamellaam Punarkum Verpu Vinnavarum Mannavarum Virumbhum Verpu, Vemkata Verpena Vilangum Veda Verpe" The mountain that reveals to us the two holy feet of Sri Krishna; the mountain where wicked sinners get rid of their 'Punya' and 'Papa'; the mountain on which flow holy streams perennially with pellucid waters; the mountain that is extolled as the abode of all righteous actions; the mountain that secures all the enjoyments of 'Paramapada' (the region of the dazzling gold); the mountain that is longed for by the eternal 'Suris' and the people of this earth; that is the only mountain that is described in the Vedas and famous as Vemkata hills.. [from Sri Anbil Ramaswamy Swami's write up] Swamy Himself declares- The gaNTA avathAra of Sri Srinivasa's unambiguous statement. Thoppul ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan on ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan. Swamy Emperumaanaar Sri Bhashyakaarar-SrI Ramanujacharya has written Vedaartha sangraham in this ThiruvEnkatam mountain. He has referred to Srinivasa in his mangaLa sloka of Sri Bhashya. Let us enjoy that wonderful verse. Sri Ramanuja in no uncertain terms the resplendent glory of Lord Venkateswara: akhila bhuvana janma sthema bhangAdi lIle vinata vividha bhuta vrAta rakshaika dikshe | Sruti Sirasi vidIpte brahmaNi SrInivAse bhavatu mama parasmin Semushi bhakti rUpA || May my intellect assume the form of Bhakti in Srinivasa, the highest Reality, revealed in the Vedanta as the Lord who creates, protects and destroys the whole universe with sportive ease and who has taken a vow to protect all creatures who seek him. venkaTAdri samam sthAnam brahmANDe nAsti kincana; venkateSa samo devo na bhUto na bhaviSyati! So declares the Varaha Purana. Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara is the ultimate goal of all devotees from times immemorial. [ from http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/temples/tirumalai/overview.html It is indeed adiyEn Parama bhaagyam that Sri Satakopan Swamin commanded adiyEn to write this series taking all AzhwArs' verses on ThiruvEnkatam. Swami also sent his Tamil manuscript covering about 90 pages which he had written as a letter to his illustrious father and sister few decades ago. adiyEn referred to the majestic unpayasams of Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami on AzhwArgaL kaNda ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan; [had I covered all that he spoke in upanyasams, I would have taken whole life time of mine to write- so vast and resourceful were they]. AdiyEn referred to various books on Srivaishnavam, the articles written by Bhagawathaas in the list. Thanks to everyone who has encouraged adiyEn's rambling. If at all anything good found herein, it is all due to Parama dhayALu, Parama krupAkaran, the most compassionate Lord Sri PadmavathI SamEtha Sri Srinivasa's glories and the faultless blemishless AzhwArs' sreesookthis; the great commentaries, the sweet upanyasam, etc. How could my rambling be bad? No way. Thanks for giving adiyEn such an opportunity to perform this kaimkaryam which adiyEn did not dread taking up [as fools rush in where angels fear to dread]. Let me continue to be a fool and rush such ventures more often to perform these kaimkaryams. Thanks for your patience. I am here reminded of 103rd verse of Swamy desikan's dayA sathakam: 103rd verse. Oh dAyA Devi! You are as the vast ocean whose depth is immeasurable. Sages like Valmiki were aware of this and did not venture to dive in to the ocean. Where they stood on the shore, I ventured to dive in and attempted to scale the depth. But, I could not reach the sea-bed and came back up from the depths. Both the Lord and His consort are amused at my attempt and smile teasingly. In spite of this teasing, because I made them laugh, even though I attempted the impossible, you must protect me. It does not apply to Swamy Desikan; it is more apt for meâ?¦ They [and you all] laughed at adiyEn's attempts. But I take them as Your enjoyment and will continue to do the same. ozivil kaalamellaam udanaay manni, vazuvilaa adimai seyya vENdum_naam, theziku ral_aru vitthiru vEngadatthu, ezilkoL sOthi enthaithanthai thanthaikkEâ?¦..[Thiruvaymozhi 3.3.1] â?¦ padiyaay kidandhu un pavaLa vaay kaaNbaenâ?¦ [PerumAL Thirumozhi] agala killEn iRaiyum'en RalarmEl mangai yuRaimaar_paa, nigaril pugazhaay! ulagamoon Rudaiyaay! ennai aaLvaanE, nigaril amarar munikkaNangaL virumpum thiruvENG kadaththaanE, pugalon Rillaa adiyEnun adikkee zhamarndhu pugundhEnE.
