SrI:
SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:
Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Raama: SasthrabhUthAmaham- Rama?s asthra prayOgam
(sending arrows victoriously and effortlessly) is
described by AzhwAr in this pAsuram:

vaanakammum maNNAkammum veRpum EzhkadalkaLum
pONnakam seydhu Alilait thuyinRa puNdareekanE
thEnakam sey than naRu malar thuzhaaynan maalaiyaay
koon aham pugath theRiththa koRRavilli yallaiyE?
(30)

The place of Devas- the upper world; the place of
humans- the earth; the mountains; the seven oceans;
were all swallowed (eaten) and then reclined on little
Banyan leaf that was floating on praLaya waters as an
infant Baby! [what a wonder!] PundareekA!
SarvashrEshtanE! Supreme Lord! The One who wears good
most fragrant cool ThuLasi garland (where bees drink
honey)! You are One who sent the arrow victoriously
entering into the hunch back woman (Koon agam puga
theRittha) You are the unparalleled Warrior
[dhanurveeran)

With absolutely no weapon with You, You swallow the
entire universe with all worlds, oceans and all beings
including Devas; When such is the case, where is the
question of a simple Raakssa Raavana winning! You
effortlessly send arrows to destroy such insignificant
enemies! With no difference You retain everyone in
Your stomach; And You are the One who helps them (us)
in danger (Apathsaha.. )

Vaanakam- meaning the upper world including residents;

veRupm yEzh kadalgaLum- the seven mountains and seven
oceans; Kulaparvathams are seven. There are seven
dweepams in universe. Jambu, plaksham, saalmalam,
kusam, krowncham, saakam and pushkaram. Each one is
surrounded by oceans namely, salt waters, sugar cane
juice, kaL (liquor), Ghee, curd, milk and pure water..
? enlists Abhinava Desika Sri UttamUr Swamy in his
commentary. Jambu dweepam is at the center. In that
lies mEru mountain- the golden mountain. This
Jambudweepam is divided into seven varsham... namely,
bhAratha varsham, kimpurusham, Hari, inAvrutham,
ramyakam, hiraNmayam and Uttharaguru. Between two
varshams there is a mountain that splits divides them.
At the centre is mEru and three on one side are:
nishadham, hEmakootam, Himalayas. On other side of
mEru are: Nilgiri, KailAsam, Srungi- Uttharavindhya.
Thus there are seven mountains. These are all varsha
mountains.. Thus there are mountains in each dweepam,
What we saw are in Jambhu Dweepam.

There are also individual mountains in each varsham.
mahEndram, malayam, sahyam, sukthimaan, vindhyam,
paariyaathram are Bharatha varsha mountains. They are
called kula parvathams. Thus there are very many
mountains. Hence AzhwAr mentions oceans alone as seven
(veRpum yEzh kadalgaLum)

Alilai- After swallowinbg all these mountains,
universe, oceans, beings and everything that you name-
retaining all of them intact without any swapping or
mix ups, showing no disparity if it is a Deva, human
or plant or animal, the Lord most mercifully protects
them in His stomach and lies down as a small infant on
a little Banyan leaf floating on waters? what a
wonder! A small tender leaf holding the little Boy who
had eaten all these huge mountains! What a mystery! ?
wonders AzhwAr.

PundareekanE! Red lotus is Pundareekam, His hands,
palms, eyes, feet, navel, the red lips, the divine
charming face are all lotuses. He is the lotus forest.
The Paramapadham itself is called Pundareekam ?
Pundareekam ParamdhAma:- says VishnusahasranAmam.
Hence when AzhwAr addresses Him as PundareekanE! He is
greatest and most beautiful like Pundareekam and hence
He is addressed so- as He is SarvOtthaman; nirmalan
(Blemishless); Supran; ShrEshtan. Hence We need to
infer this word as SarvOtthamanE!

thEnagam sey- The bees drink honey in the thUlasi
leaves when he wears; nanmaalai- Good garland- why
good? Because the ThuLasi does not let itself be worn
by any other demi god. It has such a
ParamaikAnthyathvam. Hence good. Thus He is the
nAthan (Master) of Nithya vibHuthi as well. Earlier by
his swallowing he proves that he is the nAthan of
LeelAvibhUthi. He is thus ubhayavibhUthi nAthan.

Koon agam- KaNNan?s affair with a hunch back woman
Trivakrai is described beautifully and divinely in
Srimad Bhagawatham. Thus when Krishna appeared He did
such wonders. Befroe that during RamavathAram as human
birth, You also performed wonders with Your Bow ? says
AzhwAr mentioning about kooni (hunch back). Though
Vaalmeeki does not mention about this incident, it is
however referred to in Kamba Ramayanam that Rama as a
young Boy sent an arrow (with flower tip) at the back
of a hunch back maid (of KaikEyi) and her ego got
hurt. She took revenge by sending him to the forest
which made Rama perform great histrionics with His
wonderful arrows showing his feat at the divine Bow
destroying the thousands of Raakshasas including
Raavanan. Thus she made Him prove that.

OR Kooni entered and never disappeared and bounced
back with a vengeful action.
Or it can also be read as : Koon agam puga- theRittha-
When the hunch back entered (puga- into the house or
room of KaikEyi), everything followed and then Rama
set the arrows to the destruction of Raakshasas.
Thus she helped the process to get over with Rama?s
valour.

OR she wanted to destroy Rama (with a vengeance) and
He destroyed the raakshasaas with his divine arrows
effortlessly and victoriously and made the success
enter into her making her feel ashamed.

How many ways Acharyas have enjoyed the verse lines..
so beautifully!
