Respected devotees

Shriman Vasudevan sir has asked a beautiful question
for which a small devotee would like to answer in the
following way.

Who told that viswamitra went to see King dasarath by
foot. Here it is to mention that whenever we go to
see lord or any great person we go with MANORTHA and
sage viswamitra also went to ayodhya with Manoratha.
This is being explained in Tulsi Ramayan in Balakanda
at doha 206.

Do.: bahubidhi karata manoratha j.ta l.gi nahiò
b.ra,
kari majjana saraµu jala gae bhµupa
darab.ra.206.
Indulging in expectation of various kinds the sage
took no time in reaching his
destination. Bathing in the stream of the Sarayµu he
proceeded to the royal court. (206)

Also Rama and Laksman went by foot alongwith sage
viswamitra this is being written in ramayan. The
question for vibeshana arises when lord rama was
fighting with Ravana in yudha kanda that Lord rama was
not having chariot and vibeshan feels very bad that
Lord rama is not having chariot and ask lord rama
that he is not having chariot. For this Lord rama
answers in a beautiful way. So we can presume that
Chariot means the following and not the vehicle which
one should posses as we find in now a days life. So
no where we can say that Lord rama was without
chariot. Saint Tulsidas paints this in a beautiful
verses in Yudha Kanda at Doha No.79 which is placed
below:-

Do.: duhu disi jaya jayakåra kari nija nija jor jåni,
bhire bra ita råmahi uta råvanahi bakhåni.79.
With a shout of ìVictory! victory!!î on both sides and
each finding his own match,
the heroes came to a close combat, the monkeys singing
the glory of ?r Råma and the
demons extolling Råva?a. (79)

Cau.: råvanu rath biratha raghubrå, dekhi bibhana
bhayau adhrå.
adhika prti mana bhå saÅdehå, baÅdi carana kaha sahita
sanehå.1.
nåtha na ratha nahiÚ tana pada trånå, kehi bidhi
jitaba bra balavånå.
sunahu sakhå kaha kæpånidhånå, jehiÚ jaya hoi so
syaÅdana ånå.2.
sauraja dhraja tehi ratha cåkå, satya sla dæRha dhvajå
patåkå.
bala bibeka dama parahita ghore, chamå kæpå samatå
raju jore.3.
sa bhajanu sårath sujånå, birati carma saÅtoa kæpånå.
dåna parasu budhi sakti pracaÅ?å, bara bigyåna ka¢hina
kodaÅ?å.4.
amala acala mana trona sam.n., sama jama
niyama silmukha n.n..
kavaca abheda bipra gura pµuj., ehi sama
bijaya up.ya na dµuj..5.
sakh. dharmamaya asa ratha j.ke¡ , jtana kaha¡
na katahu¡ ripu t.ke¡ .6.

Vibh¦aÄa was disconcerted when he saw R.vaÄa mounted
on a chariot and the Hero of Raghu.s line without any.
His great fondness for the Lord filled his mind with
diffidence; and bowing to His feet he spoke with a
tender heart: .My lord, You have no chariot nor any
protection either for Your body (in the shape of
armour) or for Your feet (in the shape of shoes). How,
then, can You expect to conquer this mighty hero?.
.Listen, friend:. replied the All-merciful, .the
chariot which leads one to victory is quite another.
Valour and fortitude are the wheels of that chariot,
while truthfulness and good conduct are its enduring
banner and standard. Even so strength, discretion,
self-control and benevolence are its four horses, that
have been joined to the chariot with the cords of
forgiveness, compassion and evenness of mind.
Adoration of God is the expert driver;dispassion, the
shield and contentment, the sword. Again, charity is
the axe; reason, the fierce lance and the highest
wisdom, the relentless bow. A pure and steady mind is
like a quiver; while quietude and the various forms
of abstinence (Yamas) and religious observances
(Niyamas) are a sheaf of arrows. Homage to the
Br.hmaÄas and to one.s own preceptor is an
impenetrable coat of mail; there is no other equipment
for victory as efficacious as this. My friend, he who
owns such a chariot of piety shall have no enemy to
conquer anywhere.. (1.6)

Do.: mah. ajaya saÅs.ra ripu jti sakai so bra,
j.ke¡ asa ratha hoi d¾Rha sunahu sakh. matidhra.80(A).
suni prabhu bacana bibh¦ana hara¦i gahe pada kaÅja,
ehi misa mohi upadesehu r.ma k¾p. sukha puÅja.80(B).
uta pac.ra dasakaÅdhara ita aÅgada hanum.na,
larata nis.cara bh.lu kapi kari nija nija prabhu
.na.80(C).

.Listen, O friend of resolute mind: the hero who
happens to be in possession of such
a strong chariot can conquer even that mighty and
invincible foe, attachment to the world..Hearing the
Lord.s words, Vibh¦aÄa clasped His lotus feet in joy.
.You have utilized this opportunity to exhort me, O
R.ma, an embodiment of grace and bliss that You are..
On that side the ten-headed R.vaÄa threw his
challenge, while on this side AÆgada and Hanum.n
invited him to a contest. The demons, on the one hand,
and the bears and monkeys, on the other, steadily
fought, each side swearing by its lord.

with due respects

v.anjaneyulu
