Dear sir
I would like to know the in depth meaning of Divya prabhandam and could any one
prescribe me a good book(In tamil). The reason I want the text in tamil is, the
emotions and feelings are brought out better in Tamil than when we read in
English.
Please let me know.

The One who learnt His charming steps, breaking even
the Marudha trees(while doing so), The Purest Lord-
The One who has the Divine Conch in His Hand- The One
whose Lotus Feet is always worshipped with great
devotion by DevAs and Nithyasooris- The One who saved
and protected the suffering and lives of cattle by
lifting the mountain of Govardhanam effortlessly as an
umbrella from torrential heavy down pour by Indran- My
Perumaan- is here at ThiruvEmkatam. Oh mind! Reach
there.

When cowherd folks were doing dEvathAnthara bhajanam
(worship) to DevEndharan, this happened. This is not
like other acts where an asurA was killed. Here is an
act which tamed Devendran?s pride and arrogance. This
destroyed Devendra?s asura swabAvam. When angered
Indran sent heaviest downpour for seven days on
cowherd folks (when those cowherd group stopped
Devendra puja and did it on KaNNan as per His
instructions), KaNNan protected the cattle, cowherd
people from the rains. kunRu kudiyaay yedutthAy guNam
pORRi. The entire group, the cattle were staying
underneath comfortably without any doubt or fear that
the mountain will fall from the little finger.

This Govardhana mountain incident is very beautifully
sung by All AzhwArs and PeriyAzhwAr in particular in
his Periyazhwar Thirumozhi 3.5.

Like the huge rocks, mountains, mud are all hidden
underneath the ocean, KaNNan (who is like an ocean)
consumed the rice, ghee, curd etc.. and appeared as if
he had eaten nothing. When he could eat the whole
universe with everything in its place, this is
nothing.

Like the mahout boldly and daringly pushing his hand
inside the strong mouth of the hug elephant to feed
the same, KaNNan effortlessly and boldly inserted His
little hand underneath the huge mountain and lifted
the mountain upside down. He is the Swami of Devas
including Indran

Oh Devas who are there are swargam! If you are strong,
come and take away the mountain from my little hand-
KaNNan appears to be telling the Devas when he lifted
the mountain upside down. He is the One who appeared
as Varaaha (Huge Boar) avatar ? he is my Swami and
SarvEswaran.

The most auspicious One- Sriya: Pathi Sriman Narayanan
who was earlier praised by celestial devas; EmperumAn
KaNNan lifted the Govardhana mountain as an umbrella
with his small lotus like fingers as the spokes of an
umbrella; with the strong hand and shoulder as the
shaft of the umbrella and the mountain as the cloth.

The lines that appear on his palms, the red lotus
fingers and palms, hand never show their sign of pain,
weakness or tiredness when lifting the huge mountain
for seven days without interruption or rest. The blue
hued KaNNan lifted the victorious mountain which
houses the large clouds that appear like the white
hair on top of the head.

Seven days- it was raining cats and dogs. The fingers,
nails, hands, lotus like hands never showed any sign
of weakness or tiredness. It is as fresh as ever. The
lines also appear as clear as the first day. How is
the ThirumEni (divine body)? It is just the same ?
fresh, youthful blue hued beautiful form as fresh and
cheerful as ever. Everyone thought that it should be
some sort of magic. Bu only when they saw the other
places full of waters, and finally devendran coming
down to perform saranagathi at his feet and Govindha
pattaabhishekam and praised him, they could believe
that it was all
true.

Thus it is not unusual for EmperumAn the Sarva sakthan
to take care of few individuals for seven days so
effortlessly. It is part of His nature and duty. It is
His mercy. He always takes care of all worlds and at
all times. He carries them at all times. He is
NaaaraayaNan. The rain almost has stopped and hence
the clouds appear white and look like white hair on
the head.

EmperumAn does not have any partiality on one and
enimity on the other. He reclines on Adhiseshan; tamed
the KaaLingan. Rides on its enemy. So he considers
everyone same. [gajam vA vIkshya simham vA vAygram,
vA(S)pi varAnanA. nAhArayathi santhrAsam bhAhU rAmasya
samsrithA- Those who are devoted and surrender to
EmperumAn never get any trouble from anyone else.
Where are the cowherd folks? Where are the devas?
There can be no compatibility. Still he saved the
illiterate, poor cowherd folks from the strong devas.
Those who read them can have their own anubhavams and
enjoy various glories and Acharya sishya, ParamAthma
jeevathma, relations and also the greatness of Sarva
rakshakan Sriman Narayanan. He is sujana saarvabhouman
who lifted effortlessly the huge mountain and
protected the cattle and cowherd folks. Those who are
paramaikAnthins who understand his Parathvam and the
supremacy of Sriman Narayanan.

At the instant of greatest eclipse (12:03 UT), the Moon will stand near
the zenith for observers in the central Pacific. At that time, the umbral
eclipse magnitude will be only 0.068. North Americans will all see the
start of the event, but the Moon sets by mid-eclipse for observers east of
the Mississippi River and Great Lakes. Further west, the entire event is
visible from the Pacific coast provinces and states as well as eastern
Asia and Australia.

d h m
Moon enters penumbra October 17 9 51.4
Moon enters umbra 17 11 34.0 UT 0634 EST 1704 IST
Middle of eclipse 17 12 03.3 UT 0703 EST 1733 IST
Moon leaves umbra 17 12 32.5 UT 0733 EST 1803 IST
Moon leaves penumbra 17 14 15.1

In India as per above schedule, lunar eclipse starts at 1704 IST and ends
at 1803 IST.
In Chennai, the moon rise is at 1744 IST. Hence it is already eclipsed. So
there is 19 minutes of eclipse seeable in Chennai. So Chennai residents
have to do filial rites in 19 minutes.

In Bangalore, moon rise is at 1755 IST. So there is only 8 minutes of
eclipse duration visible. Since this interval is insufficient, Bangalore
residents are exempted from doing Tarpana.

In Mysore moonrise is at 1759 IST and so just four minutes of eclipse is
visible. So Mysore residents also spared from Tarpana.
I presume that I have given the right times of EST in NEWYORK. I think
there will be grastAsta by 0703 EST by which time you have to finish
Tarpana if any. US Westcoast and East Asia residents may see the entire
eclipse.

If any error is there anybody please correct me.

Dear Sri Sadagopan Swamy,

Adiyen is glad to be of squirrel service in bringing out valuable old
religious sanskrit literature. Thanks for taking me as a volunteer in
this area. Now I may need some sort of ID/introduction or authorisation
as connected with the project to approach parakalamatham and take blessings
from HH Parakala jeer. With that it may be easy to begin the mission to
the best of my little knowledge.

SRI RAMANUJA MISSION OF SRIRANGAM SRIMATH ANDAVAN ASHRAMAM

CELEBRATES ?VARSHAKOTSAVAM? in Boston.

by

Vaidehi V. Raja

On the evening of September 23rd, Rohini Ashtami thithiyil, Sri Venugopalaswamy
arrived in Boston with his Parivaram along with a number of deities in
Salagrama form and was received with great enthusiasm by Shri Sunder Kidambi
and family. Shortly thereafter a team of people visited Sadhu Vasvani Center,
Dracut, MA, the venue, and made preparations to receive and witness all the
grand events celebrating the Varshakotsavam of the Pranaprathishtapana of Lord
Venugopalan with Rukmini and Sathyabama thayars.

On Sat at 6.30 a.m., the deities with their Parivarams were received with all
the mariyadhai with poornakumbham amidst vadhya and veda gosham. Seva kalam
with the recitation of Tirupallaandu, Tiruppalliyezuchchi, Tiruppaavai, and
many other pasurams from nityanusandhaanam was performed. Preparations then
were done for Thirumanjanam. "KAna kannAyiram vEndumallavO engaL nAthanin
azhagiya thirumEni thravyangaLAl thiru neerAdal kAna! Elloraiyum divya
swarupathAl mayakkinAn mAyavan!" Paduka aradhanam for the Sri Padukas of all
the puurvAcharyas and prakrutam Andavan was also performed.

"Manjal kappu thulasi mAlayodu engal manamellAm niraindhAn Madhusuudanan". Veda
ghoshti chanted taittiropanishat and pancha suuktam. During Eera vaadai sevai,
kattiyam was recited. Meanwhile, varieties of sweets and savories, specially
prepared by the local residents for the kalyana utsavam and fruits and garlands
began to appear one by one. In the couple of days preceding the gala
celebration, groups of ladies affectionately prepared several garlands made of
tulasi and various flowers to adorn the Lord suiting the event. Thus one could
enjoy kannan in tulasi mala alankaram or in different colour garlands as
mappillai and so on. The stage really looked like a kalyana pandal with seer
varisai.

At this time, via telebridge we were supremely blessed to hear the beautiful
singing of ?Adharahita charuvamsanala?, a stanza from Sri Gopala Vimshati
extremely apt for the function, by His Holiness Srimath Srimushnam Andavan and
also his brief kalakshepam wherein He so succinctly brought about the Vaibhavam
of Sri Venugopalan. The Ramanuja Mission President, Sri Poondi Vijayaraghavan
Swamin quickly briefed Srimath Andavan about the happenings at the center.

By about 11 am, the Lord was taken to the entrance and after being received
with sampradaya mariyadai fitting His Nithyakalyana kolam, returned to the
podium as Kalyana Mapillai! "ManamagalAm ThAyAr iruvarum alangArathudan
alaviLLA azhagudan milirnthanar". With brief ceremonial rituals, mAlai
marrtrudal was performed. The marriage function began with nadaswaram. After
witnessing Perumal thayar kanganam kattuthal, everyone had the opportunity to
follow suit. This brought up sweet memories for quite a few as couples were
asked to tie it for each other. One person said jokingly, ?we get married only
so we will have someone to tie the kanganam on such occasions!?

Several devotees sponsored the event. Thirumangalya dharanam was a scene to
behold. "PerumAlum ThAyArgalOdu azhagukku azhagu sErthArpOl kAtchiAlithAr". The
Lord then adorned the Unjal with 5 Sumangalis conducting the ?pidi sutral?,
while devotees began to sing. This was followed by ?Thengai uruttal?, symbolic
of ?vilayadal? event in marriages, to the singing of Sri Kothai NAcciyar?s
VAranamAyiram. With sattrumurai everyone received Theertham and shatAri and had
the privilege of seeing Sri Venugopalaswamy and Thayars, Sri Periya Thiruvadi,
Sri Udayavar and all the SAligrAma Perumals. Thus concluded the morning session
with everyone feeling happy and heading for a marriage feast. The entire feast
was prepared by a team headed by Smt. Rama Bhatta. She was ably assisted by a
host of local residents. A lot of planning and shopping and cooking culminated
into sarkarai pongal, kalanda sAtham, lemon rice, thayir sAtham and vadai
paruppu, not to mention several sweets and savories for
prasadam.

We were quickly summoned as Lord Krishna got ready for DOlOtsavam. It was a
treat for our eyes and ears to see the Lord in Dolai. He was entertained for
the next 3-4 hours with Iyal, Isai and NAtakam. Yes indeed! The entertainment
kicked off with a dance of Varanamayiram, by Ms. Sowmya Chari, a disciple of
Smt. Jyoti Raghavan. There was another bharatanatyam performance by the
disciples of Smt. Sridevi Tirumalai, who performed a Pushpanjali and Varnam, a
dance-drama depicting the birth and leelas of Sri Krishna. The bhavas of the
disciples were simply rapturous with a demanding and superb choreography by
their teacher. The fitting finale to their drama, depiction of Lord Krishna as
Parthasarathy and delivering the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna was simply enchanting.
They all deserve a well earned applause.

The dance team was well challenged by Kalaivani Kalaikoodam (the drama team) by
portraying the salient events in the lives of Mudalazhwars, the famed
Bhoodatazhwar, Pozgaiahwar and Peryazhwar, the first three saints of the twelve
azhwars. The audience witnessed with delight as they came to life through the
tireless efforts of Shri. Narayanan and Smt. Vasundara. It was such a sweet
treat to see several little feet scurrying between scenes! Yes the kids ranged
from 3-17 years! What a monumental effort on their part as well to depict Lord
Krishna, Azhwars, Andal, Thirumangai mannan and Sonna vannam seitha perumal
stories to us. I am convinced Lord Venugopalan witnessed all the drama with
great affection. This was followed by a solo vocal recital by Smt. Geetha
Murali. Her rendering of the songs on Krishna was pure unadulterated treat for
the ears. "Kannanin mOhana gAnamO enru thOnriyadhu!" Next came a short sweet
rendering of two bhajans by a group of six ladies from the Boston area.
All the participants were given certificates of appreciation by Sri RAMANUJA
Mission. The drama troupe was blessed to receive trophies from His Holiness Sri
Santharamji, of H.H. Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, who was kind enough to grace
the entire function.

The Dolai concluded with the recitation of siriya thirumadal and saartrumurai.
Several devotees continued singing individually. By about 7/8 pm the visitors
were gone with packed dinners! The local volunteer cleaning crew stepped in to
the backdrop of Smt. Aruna Sairam singing (CD). Several were in the kitchen
preparing for dinner with most kids having dinner. Upstairs in the hall, a few
kids were playing, some adults cleaning, some sitting/ standing and casually
talking. There was a 6 yr old kid and mom singing sitting near Krishna. And
then a 3 year old started dancing for Krishna voluntarily for the background
music. The scene was truly like a kalyana mandapam after the marriage is over
and only the very essential parties are left. And that is how it felt for all
of us in Boston ? tired, relaxed in mind that the function was an overwhelming
success by the grace of His Holiness Srimath Andavan, satisfied that we put in
our best efforts and ecstatic that the Lord Venugopalan is
