Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

Before we proceed further with next naama, it is necessary to clarify on the 'pleading' of thyaagaraaja in the krithi 'sanaathanaa' in phala manjari â is it a real pleading? The answer is 'NO'.

In anupallavi thyaagaraaja says "thana vaaDanee abhimaanamu dhaivamaina neekEla kalugadhu" meaning - You, being the supreme God, Why don't you consider me as your intimate one? When such words are there how is that krithi applicable to samudhra raajan episode â may be such a doubt will come to any body - because when and where  samudhra raajan is pleading to raama to consider him as a person in raama's side.

vaalmeeki's lines say --

na kaamaan na cha lobhaadh vaa na bhayaath paarthiva aathmaja |

raagaath nakraakula jalam sthambhayeyam kathamchana || 6-22-27

meaning: samudhra rajan says to raama "O, prince! Neither from desire, nor from ambition, nor from fear, nor from affection, I am able to solidify my waters inhabited by alligators."

This inner meaning is â hey lord raama, even though you are my lord, I cannot change my nature due to any of the above as stated -- but I am in your side, why don't you consider me as your dhaasan. To prove that already the ocean has washed the feet of raama with its waters. And when ocean king appeared in person, he did an anjali and started speaking 'oh raama'.

Then he says â 'I shall make it possible to see that you are able to cross over me and reach other side. I will arrange a place for your army of the monkeys to cross me and bear it' â says vaalmeeki in 6-22-28 â that slokam we have already seen. So it is a sort of informing 'why don't you consider me I am in your side and be a helping hand in your army crossing the ocean' â this information, in his poetic license, thyaagaraaja places as 'thana vaaDanee abhimaanamu dhaivamaina neekEla kalugadhu'. So it is not a real pleading and /or begging to his raama by thyaagaraaja.

That is what I said in the other krithi also â atrue bhakthaa knows what and when the god will act and does not plead for this or that thing - which our respected sadagopan swamy commented as 'moving'. With that the points on phala manjari krithi is concluded.

The next naama is "aaaptha sulabhaaya nama:". This naama is taken from krithi indukA puTTinchithivi â in bhairavi raagam â in third charaNam this naama is available. The meaning of this naama is "Oh Lord, who is easily approachable (sulabha) to those who are dear (aapthah) to You!".  The charaNam reads --

[C 3] bhOgadhaa aaptha sulabhaa aga dharaNa

Bhava rOga haraNa sree thyaagaraaja nutha

sOga kanulathO baagu meeranu

vEga jooDa raadhaa aagama chara nannu (indhukaa)

In sree vishNu sahasra naamam there are two naamaas which are opposites to each other or self contradicting â one is 'sulabhaaya namah' while other is 'dhurlabhaya namah'.

Om su laBhaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 823 occurring in slOkam 88

meaning: he who is easily accessible.

opposite - Om dhur laBhaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 783 occurring in slOkam 83

meaning: who is difficult to obtain.

Whereas here thyaagaraaja says, raama is 'aaptha sulabhaaya namah'. This naturally means for raama bhakthaas or one who loves raama, it is easy for him to get that raama, for he has become an 'aapthan' to the lord and for others raama is difficult to obtain.

Dhasan
