kolliampAvai
Earlier it was seen that
despite periya pirAtti's presence parkalA nAyaki was desiring emperumAn. The
mother now talks very high regarding the beauty of parkAla
nAyaki.
Does she compare her with
fresh lotus? Or is she related to the moon? Or is her beauty at pAr with upper
world maidens?
No.She is termed as "kolliampAvai"
kolliampAvai.
kolliampAvai is a scupture
of a maiden in the kolli hils created by dhEva siRpi in those days. This is
supposed to belong to small king "vallu Ori" -an
ancient tamil descendent. The sages and dEvAs in the hills were being tormented
by the demons and asurA clans. This maiden's- made by dhEva siRpi- smile
attracts the demons and they fall dead at the mystical smile. The
sculpture was so created to emanate the smile of demolition at the venture of
some demons.
The greatness and beauty of
the kolliampAvai is narrated as being at kolli hills, full of beauty, is not
destroyed by wind or rainfall or other such hurdles. These are all described in
tamil works like naRRinai, sEvaga chinthAmaNi. In fact, aganAnURu, puRanAnURu
qutoe kolliampAvai while talking of beauty of the heroines.
silappadhigAram mentions
that thirumagaL danced in the form of 'kolliampAvai'
to make the demons who came forth with aggressive intentions and defeated them
with the beatuy.
Accordingly, our mother,
mother of parakAla nAyaki describes the beauty of parkAla nAyaki as that of
kolliampAvai.
It is pertinent to note that
in the pAsuram parakAla nAyaki is just mentioned as
kolliampAvai and not kolliampAvaikku oppu.-this is called muRRuvamai when the subject itself is almost like
the example.
The pAsuram goes on like
this.
"...Agiulum Asai vidALAL,
kuvaLaiamkaNNi, kolliampAvai....sollu nin-thAL ..." periya thiru-mozhi
