Dear Sriman Rajagopalan :

The Text for Raam Leela as practised
in the Northern parts of India is:

Asvinya sthithE pakshE DasamyAm VijayOtsava:
KartavyO VaishNavai: sardam sarvatra vijayArtina

- - - -Bhavishya Uttara PurANa : 15/661 ( Hari Bhakthi VilAsa)

(Meaning): If any VaishNava wants victory everywhere ,
then he should celebrate the Vijaya Dasami day
( Sukla Paksha Dasami in Asvina month) . This day
is the victory day of Lord Hari.

Tulsi Das also makes reference to Vijaya Dasami as
the day , when LOrd Raamachandra killed RaavaNan .

As you are familiar , Vijaya Dasami in each part of
India is celebrated with different traditions :
Durga pooja in Bengal , Golu and AksharAbhyAsam
in Tamil Nadu/AP/Karnataka , Aayur Devi worship by
the SiddhAs , Garbha and Dandiya dance in Gujerat
etc .

The central message is the victory over the forces of
evil , darkness and Aj~nAnam . The spirit of Vijaya
dasami has to be remembered every day .
