Srimadh Azhagiyasingar (fondly called as "Villivalam swAmy") is one of the most dynamic of "AchAryAs" in the long lineage of pontiffs of the Ahobila Muttam. He ascended the "peetam" in 1993 and since then he has transformed the profile of this immortal spiritual institution through a number of initiatives and projects undertaken at his insistence. Most notably, they are to name just a few: ** the projects he steered and completed in the field of education (setting up Ahobila Mutt schools and introducing both secular and religious curricula therein), ** establishing scholarships and sponsorships for needy students, ** construction of a magnificent Muttam premise at Selaiyur, near Madras, ** commencing the English language edition of "Nrsimha Priya", the Muttam's official magazine-publication, ** publication of several invaluable works of spiritual and religious interest through the Muttam's publication division, ** consecration of several temples all over India with customary sacraments and endowments, ** performing "samAshrayanam" and "bharanyAsam" rites for thousands of devotees and disciples, ** tirelessly undertaking journeys all across the length and breadth of India to reach his vast legion of disciples and administering to their varied personal needs of spiritual solace and comfort ** delivering brilliant and profound discourses on various subjects of Vedanta, on the scriptures of the Vedic faith and the literature of saints and sages of our ancient land ** above all, being present always amidst his vast circle of disciples both in India and abroad, in spirit if not always in the flesh, and being a constant messenger of God's blessings and compassion to all humanity. ***************** Throughout this year 2006,(and especially now in the few months left to consummate his 'sathAbhishEkam' later this year) special celebrations have been held both in India and abroad to honor this great doyen of Sri Vaishnava 'sri sampradAya'. We in Kuwait should also take this great opportunity to celebrate the occasion. Not all of us may have the "bhAgyam" to be physically present on the occasion of the "sathAbhishEkam" to be held later this year in Nov-Dec. But we need not be disappointed on that score since we can always celebrate the occasion here in Kuwait and dedicate it, in all sincerity and humility, to His Holiness. His "katAksham" thereby will definitely be showered upon us. For the past 6 years, we the members of the Tiruvenkamtam Group, have been regularly and diligently pursuing "vEdhAdhyAna" under the tutelage of SrimAn Ishti Venkatakrishnama Chary (IVK Chary). There are about 20-25 of us who have today attained at least some elementary level of familiarity with the great Vedic passages and "prashnAs" that SrimAn Chary, the 'adhyApakar', has sincerely and patiently taught us. It is proposed now to put whatever little we have learnt so far to real good purpose. It is proposed to conduct an "akhanda-veda-pArAyanam" session in Kuwait in honour of and in celebration of the grand "sathAbhishEkam" of Srimadh Azhagiyasingar. The plan is to assemble in "gOshti" in full strength, participate fully in chanting the "prashnAs" we have learnt, and dedicating it all mentally ("mAnaseeka-samarpaNam") at the feet of the great AchAryan on the occasion of His 80th Birthday. This dedication is to be done in the sincere hope that the "AchAryan" will accept it ("sveekaritthu aruLavEndum") and convey it all on our behalf to the Almighty, Sri "MalOla-nrsimhan", the presiding Deity at Ahobilam. The above "visEsha akhanda-vEda-pArAyanam" program is scheduled as follows: DATE: Friday Oct 6th (happens to be the asterism of the "Kanya Maasa Thirunakshathram" of Srimad Azhagiya Singar) VENUE: My residence at Apt # 31, 8th Floor, R&A Hotel Apartments, Salmiya (tel: 706 3337) PROGRAM: 8.15 AM "AchArya tanians" Recitation of "mantra-rAja-pada-stOtram" and "lakshni-nrsimha-prappatti shlOkam" of the 44th Sri Mukkur Azhagiyasingar. "mangaLa hArathi" 8.25 AM Light refreshment (milk/coffee) VEDA PARAYANAM COMMENCES ------------------------- 8.30 AM to 11.15 PM : SESSION 1 (1) Pancha sookthams (2) Pancha shAnthi (3) Svasti vachanam (4) Rudra-prashnam (5) Chammaka-prashnam (6) Nava-graha suktam (6) Narayana upanishad 11.15 PM Light refreshment 11.30 PM - 2PM SESSION 2 (1) "udhaga-shAnthi prashnam" 2 - 3 PM Lunch - "dadhee-anna-arAdanam" 4 PM RE-ASSEMBLE 4 PM to 6.30 PM SESSION 3 (FINAL) (1) Taittiriya-Upanishad (2) MahA-nArAyana Upanishad 6.45 PM "Nrsimha-stOtrAs" "Bhagavath-AchArya sambhAvana" "saatrumarai" "prasAda viniyOga" "mangala gAnam" ******************** EVERYONE of you, without exception, is invited to attend the above occasion. Even those members who dropped out of the classes mid-way but who are familiar with at least one or two of the above 'prashnAs' are invited to participate to the extent possible. I wish to add here that it would indeed be very fitting on the occasion to collect a "bahumAnam" on behalf of the Tiruvenkatam Group, Kuwait, which we can then respectfully send to His Holiness as a mark of our deep whole-hearted devotion to him and to our beloved LORD OF Ahobilam. Our "sambhAvana" will serve as a token of our gratitude and salutations to our "AchAryan" who has indeed worked so tirelessly and done so much for our spiritual welfare all these years. Dear members and friends, please participate in good numbers in this rare event in Kuwait. Let us jointly beseech the "anugraham" of a venerable "AchArya" on the special occasion of his "sathAbhishEkam". "Sri lakshmi-nrisimha divya padukA sevaka srimatE srivann satagOpa sri nArAyana yatIndra mahA-desikAya namaha" dAsan, Sudarshan __________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
