SrimatE rAmAnujaya nama:

Dear Sri Venkat Iyengar:

I have a book on Upadesa Rathna Malai meanings in Kannada written by
Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt Jeer Swamy in kannada. I am translating it
into english and reproducing it here. My translation is by no means
upto the standard but should be just good enough to get the surface
meaning. I invite members to please feel free to correct me if I am
wrong. I would also request others to post other more in-depth
meanings.

Alwar Emberumanar Jeer Tiruvadigale saranam

rAmAnuja dasi

----------------------------------

1.MunnOr molinda...

People who, instead of listening to Poorvacharyas' sayings in an
orderly fashion completely and dwelling about the meanings in the
minds and then repeating what was taught exactly to
others, say whatever comes to their mind (insisting that itself as
the correct meaning handed down from Poorvacharyas), are called
fools.

There were people in Mamuni's times, who had neither listened to
vykhyanams of poorvacharyas nor did they have any principles to stick
to Poorvacharya's commentary but used to talk ill of Srivachana
Bhooshanam and other works w. It is becauseof this reason that
this particular pashuram has been composed.

2.poorvacharyargal..

If you get away from the fools mentioned in the previous pashuram and
keep as treasures, in your minds, the saying of seers who always
stick to poorvacharya's upadesha with clear mind and seek a
sadAchArya and start learning from him , then even in this Bhoolokam
which is supposed to bring only ignorance, you can be happy!

3.Inda upadesha...

Those who think about this Prabhandham called Updesha Rathna Malai
everyday, will get the grace of Swami Yathiraja(Ramanuja) and live
contendedly.

Extended meaning: Those who adorn the garland composed of contents
that Swami Yathiraja would love, would attain his grace itself as the
fruit for learning this prabhandham.

4. Mannuyirhalinge...

Introduction:

Since Swami Ramanuja had 74 simhasanadhipathis, Swami Mamuni wanted
to compose74 pashurams in Upadehs Rathna Malai. At that time a great
acharya by name Erumbiappa, who knew Swami Mamuni to be a divine
personality, found the lack of reference to Swami Mamuni himself in
this divine prabhandham that came into being to tell about Alwars and
Acharyas greatnesses, as a big short-coming. He therefore composed
this 74th pashuram "mannuyirhalinge..." and offered it at the feet of
Lord Sri Ranganatha requesting that it be added to the Upadesha
Rathna Malai. The fact that the Lord agreed to this and ordered the
same is known to all learned Shrivaishnavas.

Meaning:

Mumukshus! In this earth if we believe that Swami Manvala Mamuni's
Lotus Feet is what protects us and touch Them with our heads, the
Lord Himself will hold our hands thinking it is His duty...
