Highly disappointed with the happenings, elaiAzhvar proceeded to run for life
in the opposite direction. Soon, he found himself, amongst a deep jungle,
looking for water to quench his throat filled thirst. As per the verse,
"porundhAr kaivEl nudhipOl pAlpAya meladikkal kurudhi sOra, virumbhAtha kAn
virumbhi veyil vurappa venpasi nOi koora", elaiyAzhvar was left in the hot sun
all alone ("vindhyAda veeshvathO yAsu") searching for someone to help him out
of the thick forest ("AvArAr thunai endru pakkam nOkki). He was so confused,
mentally tired and upset that, he couldn't really think how to proceed.
At that time bhagavan, sarvEshvaran "sadhAhas sarva sulabha:" appeared along
with a bow and arrow in his hand accompanied by his consort
("nAhamAthmAnamAsAsE math bhakthais sAdhubhir vinA"). Relieved to see the
hunter and his wife, elaiyAzhvar enquired them about who they were and to which
destination they were proceeding? The hunter replied back that they were coming
from siddhAsramam in the north, and were proceeding towards the sathya vratha
kshetram. ElaiyAzhvar requested them to show him the path for the same for
which they readily accepted. Hence all three of them started their journey
towards the sathya vratha kshetram. The sun started falling and once the
evening set in, they did their evening anushtanams and rested in one place.
It has become dark by then and hence the visibility has drastically reduced. So
they decided to stay under a tree for that night. The hunter's wife, tired due
to the journey throughout the day, wanted to have some water to quench her
thirst. Due to the darkness the hunter told her to wait till the morning so
that he could get her water from the nearby well. ElaiAzhvar felt very bad for
being unable to even quench her thirst when they have saved his life.
Then the darkness slowly unwrapped ("kanavirulagandradhu") and light slowly
appeared in the bottom of the sky. Hearing the loud utterance of hari nAmA
("hariendra pEraravam kEttu") elaiyAzhvar woke up and completed all his morning
anushtanams and searched for the hunter and his wife who were not to be seen in
any of the nearby place. He made a loud call for two or three times around the
place and not receiving any response, he began to proceed forward. By this time
the sun started to rise and the light began to spread throughout the area
("kadhiravan gunadhisai sigaram vandhadainthAn"). ElaiAzhvar was taken aback to
find the place he was now was totally different from the one, he stayed the
earlier day.
With utter confusion, elaiyAzhvar proceeded walking while he entered a garden
with a well. Near the well, he found a few men to whom he enquired about the
name of the place he was presently in. They replied,"Oh! Brahmin don't you see
the punya kOti vimAnam over there?" On hearing this, elaiyAzhvar became highly
ecstatic like piratti after hearing about ravana vadham and perumal on hearing
the words, "DrushtA seethA" and like hanuman on reaching the madhuvanam.
Immediately elaiyAzhvar realized that the hunter couples were none other than
perumal and piratti, the divine couples (kAnchi dEva perumal and perundEvi
thayar) and from then on involved himself deeply in the divine kainkaryams of
divine couples just like the azhvars.
