THE TRANSFORMATION OF A
WEAPON INTO AN ORNAMENT

In thirup-pAvai "kUDArai vellum" it is stated that the Lord
vanquishes the opponents with His power and wins over His devotees with HIs
attributes. One of the powers of the Lord is His weapons.
The immense powers of sri sudharsanam is
well known. This becomes a witness to the opponents being demolished. How is
that, the one who has to do the act of such demoliton becomes a
witness?
Well, after thirumangai- AzhWar commenced
his duty with his 'vEAl' the sudharshanam became
passive and in fact dons the Lord as an ornament rather than an ornament. This
is inferred from the pAsuram
"....nei ilangu sudar
Azhi-p-padaiyAnai nedu-mAlai,
kail ilangu vEAl kaliyan.." 3-6-10;
When we do not use a particular tool for a
long time what do we do? We pour oil and maintain the sparkle and
splendour. Likewise the sudharshanam -as it is not used as often as earlier- is
being maintained with 'nei' to maintain the sparkle
and sharpness.
thiru-mangai AzhwAr's hand is always with
his 'vEAl' to confront the enemies in case of
necessity.
bhattar's words are indeed
wonderful.
' avan kaiyil thiu-vAzhi

avan shEshithva
sUchagamAgath thiru-Azhiyai pidithAl pOle AyiRRu.
ivar shEshathva sUchagamAga
thiru-vEAlaip pidithapadi..'
That is, sri sudharsana
AzhwAn in the divine hands of the Lord has become an ornament. The vEAl in the
hands of parkAlan is doing its duty continuously so that there is no time to
even remove the stain of blood etc.
The Lord has got the
thiru-vAzhi in His hand as a symbol of Supremacy and
AzhwAr has got vEAl as a
symbol of subservience.'
