Stepping into the
shoes of...
thAn pOlum enRezhundhAn
tharaNi ALan...
To describe and narrate is difficlut. To
convey ones feelings is complicate. Expressing in Direct voice is complex.
Mono-Acting and conveying the feelings of others is most difficult. Stepping
into the shoes of others and think from their angle is rare and
tough,
Not only it is strange to one's own nature
but it is not natural. Thinking of the Lord comes naturally. Thinking of
the arakkan who opposes the Lord and going into his mind and conveying his mind
is extremely difficlut To add to all this is summarising all this in a pAsuram.
Even to gauge that AzhwAr is expressing
the feeling from rAvanAs' view-point is difficult but for sri
bhattar.
sri bhaTTar as a child made easy the
understanding of the pAsuram if we think of the pAsuram as voicing of rAvanAs
views.
" I am Governing this
world. This ordinary mortal called rAmA is planning to attack me as if He
is the king of the whole world. As the king of asuras does anybody think
that this will be endured?" were his egoistinc thoughts. What happened
later on is known to one and all.
This
"He is thinking as if
He is the biggest king of the world ---thAn pOlum
enRezhundhAn tharaNi ALan
Can it be endured by
the king of arakkan-------------adhu kaNDu
tharithiruppAn arakkar thangaL kOne pOlum"
rAvanAs words voiced
aloud.
These thoughts are just put in a couple of
lines:
"thAn pOlum enRezhundhAn
tharaNi ALan, adhu kaNDu tharithiruppAn arakkar thangaL kOne pOlum" enruzhandha
kunRam anna
irupadhu thOLudan
thuNitha oruvan kaNdEr" 4-4-6;
We have seen AzhwAr swithing roles as that
of thAyar, thOzhi or thalaivi. This thirumangai AzhwAr's thinking from the angle
of rAvanA himself is a great and unique poetic prowess.
Hats off to thirumangai
mannan.
