sri: srimathE rAmAnujaya nama: Humble pranam to all devotees: Azhvar Thirunagari - Emberumanar Sannidhi Appeal http://www.vedics.net/appeals/azhvartn/ Dear Devotees: Please accept our Humble Pranam. Part 2 Thirukkurukoor is well known as azhwar thriunagari, is present in the temple town of thirunelvEli. It is well known as varAha kshEthram. It is believed that mArkaNdEya maharshi performed penance here, and he in the form of his ArchA, is present still inside the AdinAtha perumAL garbhagriham. It is in this very famous town swAmi nammAzhwAr spent his short span of earthly life. swAmi was born to the king Kari maharaja and udayar nankai. As guruparampara believes this happened on the 42nd day of the beginning of kali yuga. kAri maharaja, didn?t had offspring?s for a long time. It is believed that thirukkurunkudi nambi himself took birth as swAmi nammAzhwar. According to Shrimad Bhagavatam, The baby in the womb is considered divine and omniscient. At the time of delivery, just when the child comes in contact with the outside would, a particular Vayu called ?SaTha? (be careful about the spelling, it is hard ?Tha? , the second alphabet in the ?Ta vargam? alphabets (Ta, Tha, Da, Dha Na)) envelopes it and makes it forget its divine quality. Nammalwar with a Humkaram drove it away, thereby himself keeping and preserving omniscience and other divine qualities. But Swami Nammazhwar won over and got rid of the vayu. Hence Swami Nammazhwar is known as 'SaThagopan'. These postings are excerpts from the upanyasam of sri M. R. Ramanujam.
