Narayana Narayana Dear Bhagavathas, We have been seeing how Sriman Narayana came to Dakshina Sheshadri for the sake of fulfilling the wishes of His devotees. In this conluding mail let us see more details about the place, which was selected by Him for His divine stay. I have been talking a lot about Sri Veda Pushkarani. Let us see how it came into existence. The legend has it that Sriman Narayana protected all the Vedas in the form of a fish-Matsya Avataram. Then, He started teaching the four Vedas to Brahma, taking the form of Hayagriva Swamy. While He did this, a drop of His sweat, which fell on the ground, gave rise to this Pushkarani. That is the reason why it is called as "Sri Veda Pushkarani". There are many more stories which sing His praise, but I fear the mail postings will not suffice to write them all. So I restrict my narrations to these mail series. This hillock is situated 10 km from a small village called Terakanambi. This belongs to the present Gundlupet Taluk, Chamarajanagar District,Karnataka State. It is situated in a very picturesque location. It has three sanctum sanctorums, the middle one dedicated to Sri Srinivasa Perumal. To the right of Sri Srinivasa Perumal, there is the Divya Sannidhi of Sri Padmavathi Thayar, and to the left of Perumal, Sri Andal graces all the devotees. One speciality about Sri Andal Thayar in this place is that she is not standing in the usual posture like how she does in other places. Instead, she is sitting with her hands joined together (in Anjali Mudra). There is another Sannidhi dedicated to Sri Vaikuntha Narayana Swami. Here, He is seated with all the twelve Azhwars and Sri Viswaksenar. There is also a Hanuman Sannidhi behind the main temple. All the festivals are celebrated on a grand scale in this place. Many people gather here to have the darshanam of the Lord on these special occasions. According to the records in The Karnataka Gazatteer, there are over 8000 people gathered here to do Sevai to the Lord, on the occasion of His Thirutther. His Thirutther will be held on the Pongal day (14th Jan) every year. There will be a lot of Parayanams during this period. Many scholars get togetherto chant the Divya Prabandham, Vedas, and many other sacred scriptures. It is indeed a sight to see the Divine couple seated in the Divya Ratham, along with Udaiyavar! There is a committee formed by the devotees here, which is called as "Sri Huligina Muradi Prasanna Venkataramana Swami Seva Samithi". It has been taking up many developmental works in this place, like building of a few guest houses for the public, providing food for all the devotees who visit this place, building a Raja Gopuram for the Perumal, etc. The Raja Gopuram construction is under progress, currently. I have added a picture of Perumal in the photos link in the group, under a directory called as Terakanambi. For more details about this place, all the interested Bhagavathas may visit the website http://www.huligadri.com or contact Thiru Srinivasa Prasanna, President, SHMPV seva samithi, Bangalore, on this phone number: 080 - 23361179. I conclude this mail series on Dakshina Sheshadri by thanking all the Bhagavathas for having read my mails patiently. I also thank my dear friend Sreejith for extending his help in this regard, without which this work would not be possible.
